The Harbour Hostel is located in the house Sjávarborg next to the beautiful harbour in Stykkishólmur. The name Sjávarborg means the palace by the sea.
The basement of Sjávarborg was built 1914 as a storage facility for ice to be delivered to the boats landing fish at the harbour. In 1938 two floors were built above to house a private home and a store. Sjávarborg has since then housed a bookstore, a barber shop and a grocery store to name a few. The current owners bought the house late 2012 to renovate it and prepare for the hostel. The hostel opened May 4 2013.
Harbour Hostel offers private rooms and beds in dorms. The facilities are designed to allow efficient and low-cost service to guests.
Staying at the Harbour Hostel guests enjoy the perfect location next to the harbour with the activites there. The view from the hostel is great over the Stykkishólmur harbour and Breiðafjörður Bay. Restaurants and bars of Stykkishólmur are in neighboring houses. A great geothermal swimming pool is only in five minutes walking distance.
