Accommodation with or without full board for 18 people in a separate house located a short distance from the house of the family. Built 1990 in a old traditional icelandic style with turf on the roof which makes the house fit perfectly into the natural surrounding. The turf makes a unique isolation so sounds from outside such as wind is barely to be heard.
For over thirty years the Hekluhestar family has guided many groups of people coming from all over the world through the rugged area of Hekla Volcano. The participants of the riding tours travel off main traffic roads on horseback. We ride through lava fields and volcanic ash desert and other impressive scenery close to the famous volcano Hekla. The tours continues to Landmannalaugar a geothermal area with a colourful and breathtaking landscape of mountains, hot springs and lava fields. The riding tours are lead by two very experienced guides who know all the historical paths and trails of the highlands.
All luggage, food and necessary equipment is transported by a 4×4 vehicle between the stopovers. Daily treks of 4-7 hours. Accommodation is provided at the farm and in well kept mountain huts.
