In 1985, Eva Sigurbjörnsdóttir and Ásbjörn Þorgilsson moved with their three children to Djúpavík. They saw some tourists in the area and got the idea to open Hotel Djúpavík. Soon they started to renovate the old “kvennabraggann” living quarters for women and convert it into a hotel. It was not without a struggle and perseverance will kept them going.
What has characterized Hotel Djúpavík all the year is warm and respect for the “old time” Having the couple always emphasized to keep the old values.
Every year we get new faces in the group staff and have these people contributed to help Hotel Djúpavík to grow and prosper through all the years. We are infinitely grateful for their contribution and to get to know these people.
It is safe to say that The Deserted Herring Factory is the heart Djupavík. The family has made immeasurable work at it to try and save the house from the start.
