hromundartindur-volcano

The Hrómundartindur volcanic system has not erupted since early Holocene time, circa 11,000 years ago when a small basaltic lava flow erupted from a single crater or a short fissure.

The Hrómundartindur system is about 25 km long, consisting of a fissure swarm and a central volcano rising to about 550 m. This system lies on the Western Volcanic Zone but its southern part is intersected by the South Iceland Seismic Zone.
