In 1975 a memorial stone was put up for Þuríður Sundafyllir, the first known settler of Bolungarvík. The stone, which is called Þuríðarsteinn, “The Stone of Þuríður”, is in Vatnsnes where people think Þuríður’s earliest settlement was located.
