The Tindfjallajökull volcanic system has not been active since in the early Holocene (inactive during the last 8000 years). Tindfjallajökull lies on the Eastern Volcanic Zone and is a central volcano, 15-20 km in diameter, rising to 1464 m. It has a partly ice-filled summit caldera with a rhyolitic dome in the centre.
